Packing List

Details the physical packaging of a shipment — what's in each box, pallet, or container.

What It Is

A packing list itemizes the contents of a shipment at the package level. While a commercial invoice focuses on value, a packing list focuses on physical details: weights, dimensions, and how goods are packed.

When It's Required

Required by most customs authorities. Essential for:

  • Customs inspection (officers verify contents match the list)
  • Freight handling (carriers need weights and dimensions)
  • Insurance claims (evidence of what was packed)
